Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea is a quite wonderful island. The legend says it once was a part of Ulysses kingdom. It is full of dramatic and overwhelmingly beautiful views. There are high mountains and long beaches and all over the island these lovely groves full of very old and also new olive trees.
We have been there many times and each time only met friendly persons all over the island.
If you are looking for a peaceful surrounding, nature and tranqulity you’ll have to visit the Cape of Marathias. Snorkel at the romantic pebble beach (there is an authentic taverna nearby) which is even in the high season not overcrowded. Be captain for a day and rent a boat in the village Limni Keri and discover the bay with its unique Turtle Island and the famous Blue Caves. If you are lucky, you’ll see a caretta caretta swimming in the turquoise water. The Loggerhead turtles stay in the marine park during the summertime to lay their eggs at the sandy beaches. The Loggerhead turtle is a protected species, so please take care and keep your distance to these unique creatures. At the end of the Cape is a likewise wonderful hotel called Villas Cavo Marathias. From the balconys you have a magnificent view over the bay. The appartments are comfortable, convenient and beautifully furnished. Yet what we appreciated most was the very friendly and familiar atmosphere at the Villas and the staff´s permanent willingness to help and make the stay pleasant for their guests. So when will you visit Zante Island?
