Pelion’s “best hidden” tips

t is about time that through this blog I can share some tips with our old friends and clients as well as hopefully new that will love our land – The same way that we do…..I thought of handing our some “secret” knowledge…..some well hidden secrets that the locals keep for year…………So, here are some of my favorite places and tips for everyone….


Ø Visit the traditional villages of Vizitsa, Tsangarada, with their old mansions, very well kept throughout the years.

Ø The folk museum and the library in Milies, were important manuscripts have been kept since the Greek revolution of 1821.

Ø The village of Trikeri; a traditional Greek fishing village, were all traditions are kept till today. Visit the monastery and walk the whole village in order to find your “own” beach. If walking is to much for you ask one of the locals to take you around on their boat. Note, that the island in car free!!!

Ø The ski centre in Agriolefkes – and it is not only for ski. The walks and the views are breath taking!

Ø The beaches of Fakistra, Damouchari (our Mama Mia land) and Tzasteni.

Ø The islands of Alatas and Prasouda, ideal for the lovers of fishing & scuba diving.

Ø The endless springs and cobbled paths, as well as our old stone bridges.

Ø Catch the steam train of Pelion from Ano Lehonia to Milies, designed by Evaristo De Chirico and walk around the village of Milies. Originally it was main way of transportation of goods from Volos to Pelion.

Ø The museum of Volos, with very interesting findings dated as back as far the Neolithic era. The archaeological sites of Dimini and Seklo. The Argo (Jason’s legentary ship) in the port of Volos.

Ø The museum of Theofilos, the famous Greek folk painter.

Ø Play a game of tavli (backgammon) in a traditional kafeneio (coffee shop), accompanied by a cup of Greek coffee & loukoumi.

Ø Watch a movie at the Volos open-air cinema, in summer time nights.

Ø Have a walnut cake topped by vanilla ice cream at the square of Tsangarada.

Ø Walk the Milies-Xourichti path and enjoy the view of the Aegean Sea from the one side and the Pagasitikos Gulf on the other side, from the peakline.

Ø Enjoy the colours of the sunset in Milina – among the best sunsets in the world.

Ø Visit the square of Makrinitsa, enjoy the view and throw a coin behind your back at the village’s fountain.

Ø Drive to the laid back village of Agia Kiriaki and enjoy a seafood meal in one of the local tavernas by the sea. What is best than a shrimps spaggeti by the sea on a sunny winter day, as well as summer time!!!

Ø Visit the rocks of Meteora and see the Byzantine treasures of the monasteries.

Ø Have some tsipouro (the local anise based alcohol drink) in one of the tsipouro restaurants in Volos, accompanied by plates of meze.
