“the violet-crowned city”. i keep coming across people, Greek and foreigners, who tell me how ugly, dirty, hectic Athens is. it makes me wonder if these people actually saw Athens with their own eyes, if they ever walked the city streets in springtime to smell the citrus blossoms, if they felt the vibe and life in the summer in the streets at 3 am, if they were able to see the stunning sky and the views from the extravagant or plain ‘retires’ – as we call them, i.e. penthouses – as the sun sets and for an hour you enjoy the most psychedelic change of colours in the sky ever! Athens is beautiful if you can see it with your soul, if you can see the essence of things.
